About Counselling

Lauren Downey BACP Registered Counsellor

My Approach

I work integratively, which means I don't follow just one therapeutic model; I draw on several, depending on what feels most useful for you.

At the heart of my work is the relationship between us. I believe real change happens through genuine, human connection, being truly seen and understood, without judgement.

I'm interested in how our past shapes our present, often in ways we're not fully aware of.  I believe that exploring early experiences and unconscious patterns can help us to make sense of our feelings and relationships.

I work in a trauma-informed way, which means I understand the impact that traumatic experiences can have on your sense of self and experience of embodiment. I believe our emotions and stresses are held not just in our mind but also in our body, and that working with the body can open up additional ways to create meaningful change.

Our relationships, our sense of self, and our mental health are all shaped by our identity and how this relates to the social and political environment we live in. I hold that context in mind throughout our work together.

My Training

I trained at the Minster Centre, one of Europe’s leading schools for integrative psychotherapy and counselling, and am in regular clinical supervision.

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and am currently working towards a Master’s in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling through the Minster Centre and Middlesex University.

I’m also a TCTSY facilitator, which is an empirically validated, body-based intervention for Complex PTSD that uses physical shapes and movements from the yoga tradition as a way to practice noticing sensations in the body and making choices about how you want to move, whilst being alongside another person.

I’m a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and am governed by their code of conduct.
